For a long time what I used to do when I went on a trip was to take euros with me and exchange them at the destination, or, occasionally, withdraw money or pay with the card of my usual bank. This worked more or less well for me, but it meant taking money with me (sometimes quite a lot) and paying commissions both at the exchange offices and commissions for withdrawing money abroad (commissions that in my bank were 4%).
When I started to make longer trips I realized that this way of managing money was neither safe (since it would mean carrying a lot of money with me) nor efficient. So what I did was to evaluate and test different bank and card options that would allow me to withdraw money abroad without dying paying fees. Travel cards that were perfect for any kind of getaway.
For a while I used an EVO Banco account where they gave me a free card with which I could withdraw money abroad and pay without commissions. I guess word got around and today, that option no longer exists.

We work hard and invest a lot of effort in saving the money needed to travel, so hey, the bank taking big commissions from that effort to let us use something that is ours, it’s not cool.
So, in the face of so much insistence, I have decided to write this complete article and send it to any friend who asks me this question from now on. (I invite you to do the same when someone asks you: send them this post).
So unless you travel to a place where you have a friend living with you who has an account in that country and you can send him/her a free transfer (from here), and then withdraw the money in the local currency, I recommend you to pay by card and withdraw cash once you arrive in the country.
That is why it is important to choose a good card to travel that does not fry us to commissions, and I tell you, because I have suffered as my bank (Bank of Scotland) took me more than 2 and 3 € every time I paid with the card. And for withdrawing money, I’d better not confess how much they charged me in commissions.

Day 1 : Chicago- Springfield (230 Miles / 375 Km) We have breakfast at the legendary Lou Mitchells in Chicago, we see our first giant in Willmington the Gemini Giant, we begin to see mythical gas stations of the trip, we take a break at the Polk-A-Dot Drive In restaurant, we discover many incredible murals in Pontiac and visit the ROUTE 66 HALL of FRAME, a great museum. We try to follow the authentic Route 66 as we will see most of the route parallel to our road. Overnight in Springfield.
Day 2 : Springfield- Springfield (336 miles/ 540 km)In this third stage we will go from one Springfield to another, to say that it is not known which is the Springfield that appears in the Simpsons, in the USA there are many cities called like that. During the day we passed cemeteries of old cars, places to buy them and bridges like the OLD CHAIN OF ROCKS BRIDGE.  We arrived at the second state of our adventure Missouri, where we stopped in the largest city on the route which is St. Louis and we contemplated the city from the Gateway Arch to put destination to the other Springfield which is where we would spend the night.
